County Open - Newtonmore - Results 2nd October

For our final open of the year the weather was again wet but it was not windy and it was not cold.  Only 23 of the original field of 34 played and the rain did ease and finally stopped for those who played later and when everyone was finished the sun came out.  The course was quite waterlogged in places but the greens were good and seemed to drain well.  Needless to say those who played later came in with the best scores.

Scratch - Nia Morrison (Carrbridge) - 83

1st Silver - Sally Rowan (Inverness) (19) 75
2nd Silver - Anne Rose (Muir of Ord) (20) 77

1st Bronze - Doreen McCaig (Forres) (24) 72
2nd Bronze - Morag James (Forres) (22) 80

Silver Aggregate Trophy - Sally Rowan
Bronze Aggregate Trophy - Doreen McCaig
Most Improved Junior Girl - Kirsty McBeath (Forres)

COUNTY OPEN AND VETS TROPHY - KINLOSS 14th Septemer 2011

With strong winds and heavy showers for most of the day, sixteen stalwarts managed to complete the 18 holes at Kinloss today 14th September, which was a great achievement as the Vets Trophy has not been won since 2007.  In 2008 and 2010 there were not enough entries to warrant running the competition and in 2009 the weather was so bad the course became unplayable and the competition had to be abandoned.

Despite the atrocious weather today several ladies managed to return some very good scores:-

1st Scratch - Susan MacVicar (Gairloch) - 86
1st Silver - Jeani Hunter (Bonar Bridge) - (19) 75
2nd Silver - Sally Rowan (Inverness) - (19) 78
3rd Silver - Nia Morrison (Carrbridge ) (9) 79
1st Bronze - Doreen McCaig (Forres) - (24) 73
2nd Bronze - Pauline Cronin (Forres) - (27) 77

Congratualtions to all those who completed the course and to Jeani Hunter who won the Vets Trophy.

The winner of the Magic Squares was Linda Offin from Bonar Bridge.  There were two prizes Nos 64 and 88 and Linda had both of them.

Many thanks to Kinloss Country Golf Club for allowing us courtesy of their course.

Kelsey wins Under-21's for Fourth Year in a Row

Congratulations to Kelsey MacDonald for winning the Scottish Under-21 girls' stroke-play championship for a record fourth year in a row by the commanding margin of six strokes at Cardross Golf Club on Friday 29th July.  Kelsey outclassed her contemporaries despite going into the tournament on a low, having failed - not by much - to be among the 18 qualifiers at Panmure for the Ricoh British Women's Open Championship at Carnoustie.

That perhaps explained her opening round of one-over-par 75 in the Junior Women's Championship which left her joint eighth. But Kelsey banished the blues in no uncertain fashion after that. She covered the remaining 36 holes in eight under par with a pair of 70s for a seven-under-par winning total of 215.

She is a Great Britain and Ireland international these days and over the final two days at Cardross she played like one.
