Kelsey wins Under-21's for Fourth Year in a Row
Congratulations to Kelsey MacDonald for winning the Scottish Under-21 girls' stroke-play championship for a record fourth year in a row by the commanding margin of six strokes at Cardross Golf Club on Friday 29th July. Kelsey outclassed her contemporaries despite going into the tournament on a low, having failed - not by much - to be among the 18 qualifiers at Panmure for the Ricoh British Women's Open Championship at Carnoustie.
That perhaps explained her opening round of one-over-par 75 in the Junior Women's Championship which left her joint eighth. But Kelsey banished the blues in no uncertain fashion after that. She covered the remaining 36 holes in eight under par with a pair of 70s for a seven-under-par winning total of 215.
She is a Great Britain and Ireland international these days and over the final two days at Cardross she played like one.

Northern Counties' Girls' Championship 2011
It was disappointing that only four girls took part in the Northern Counties' Gils' Championship at Forres today 18th July 2011.
Despite the poor forecast the weather was fine and ideal for golf. Congratulations to Annabelle Brown from Nairn Dunbar who was the clear winner with a gross score of 86. Well done also to Kirsty McBeath from Forres who won the net trophy with a 77. The CSS for the day was 74 and the competition was reduction only. Kirsty McBeath reduced her handicap from 36 to 35.
In addition Anne Rose organised a 7-hole competition for the three youngsters from Muir of Ord, which was won by Sophie Fraser.
All the youngsters received a certificate and a ball marker in recognition of their achievement.
Everyone enjoyed the competition and agreed that they would be entering the McDermott Trophy which will be held at Muir of Ord on Wednesday 10th August at the same time as the County Open. Hopefully a few more girls will take part in this competition.
Many thanks to Anne Rose for all her hard work.

Jamboree - Inchmarlo - 2011
It is now two weeks since we played in the Jamboree. The weather was not kind to us - it was dull, dark and dreich with much rain, making the course very heavy and long.
We lost all three matches but that does not reflect the good golf that was played. The three new team members did their best and in some cases were only narrowly beaten. The more experienced members of the team played well and had good wins, especially Hannah who had a 6 and 5 win over Ailsa Summers. Eilidh and Sammy made a good foursomes team and won their matches. Cara and Jenny both played well and were able to score points but not enough!
We can't win them all but will be back next year at Monifieth to try!

North of Scotland Championship - Semi Finals and Finals 7th July 2011
For the final day of these championships the weather was mixed in the morning but turned out really well in the afternoon.
In the semi finals for the handicap Carol Wilson (Murcar Links) beat Kimberly Beveridge (Aboyne) 3 and 2. Fiona Hay (Deeside) beat Eileen Mauchline (Newmacher) on the 19th. This was a really close match with Fiona being one down going into the 18th and she won the 18th and 19th.
In the scratch section Laura Murray (Alford) beat Lynne Terry (Cruden Bay) 3 and 1 and Sammy Vass (Tain) beat Rebecca Wilson (Carnoustie Ladies) 6 and 5.
![]() | |
From left Sammy Vass (Tain), Lynne Terry (Cruden Bay), Laura Murray (Alfrod), Carol Wilson (Murcar Links) and Fiona Hay (Deeside) |
The handicap section of the finals in the afternoon had a heavy shower to start with then sunshine all the way. Fiona Hay stormed away and was 4 up at the turn and finally beat Carol Wilson 7 and 6. We are grateful to the Lady Captain of Nairn Jane Rhodes for acting as referee in this final.
The scratch final was not won so easily with only one shot between Laura Murray and Sammy Vass for most of the game. Laura went 2 up at the 15th and Sammy holed a long putt at the 17th to draw one back and they halved the 18th for Laura to win the championship and the Gifford Trophy.
The scratch final was ably refereed by club President Ronald Gordon.
